Equation Hunter: Learn Math Through Movement and Teamwork

A classroom game that turns simple equations into a search combining children’s thinking and movement.

A classroom activity for finding equation answers

Set up solution stations

Write incomplete equations such as 4 + __ = 9 or __ × 3 = 12 on cards, then place number cards in different parts of the classroom. Add a timer and boxes to act as solution stations.

Share roles within each team

Each team chooses an equation and works together to solve it. One child searches for the correct number card while another explains the thinking. The team then returns the card to its solution station.

Adjust the challenge as needed

Begin with addition and subtraction, then introduce multiplication and division when children are ready. Make collaboration and explaining the solution part of the goal, not speed alone.
